Heath Ledger and The Dark Knight have created Oscar buzz. Ledger, who played the Joker, "Raised the bar," according to Dark Knight co-star Christian Bale. Bale was not the only cast member to praise Ledger's performance and suggest the idea of a posthumous Oscar. Gary Oldman said at a press event over the weekend, "Heath had this frequency none of us could hear. The Academy tends to overlook movies like this, but this acting is so good it's going to be very hard for them to avoid it." Ledger is getting praise from reviewers across the board. Rolling Stone magazine reviewer Peter Travers said, "I can only speak superlatives of Ledger, who is mad-crazy-blazing brilliant as the Joker. Miles from Jack Nicholson's broadly funny take on the role in Tim Burton's 1989 Batman, Ledger takes the role to the shadows, where even what's comic is hardly a relief." Travers added, "If there's a movement to get him the first posthumous Oscar since Peter Finch... sign me up." Film critic Emanuel Levy also said, "[The Dark Knight] nothing short of brilliant." Ledger "should receive a posthumous Oscar nomination, if not the award itself," he continued. We agree! Ledger's intensity and commitment on the set was enough to convince us of an Oscar!
Fallen pop princess Britney Spears has been cleaning up her act lately and it looks like her music career may be next on her list of things to fix. Brit is teaming up with producer Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins who has also been off the music scene for a few years. Jerkins told Rap-Up TV, "I love working with her. I'm just trying to reinvent her and reinvent myself with her project." He also said that Spears' new album, which is scheduled to come out in early 2009, is "very dancey, really uptempo, in the clubs, real aggressive, and catchy." Jerkins called Britney "a professional" and said, "It usually takes people a long time to record songs and we just did a song. She walked in at 8:30 and was out by 10:30 -- did the whole song -- in and out." That sounds like the Britney we remember! Good luck Brit!
So in our last post about Audrina Patridge'swild night in Chicago, we said she exchanged numbers with a random guy. Well, here he is! Apparently, this random is a huge Patridge fan and made a point of buying the VIP table right by hers on Saturday night. Can anyone say creepy crush??? On to her next stalker, Victoria and Everything S.O.S was back in action Saturday night after almost a year in hibernation and now she's a redhead. What do you guys think, does she look better as a redhead? Stalker number three? Season 10 Bachelor, Andy Baldwin...remember him? After the final rose, his breakup with Tessa, and a romp in the Malibu sand with Marla Maples, Baldwin is after love yet again. Baldwin told The Boots Girls on Saturday night that he was "in town for a medical conference", but once the doctor heard that Patridge was in here he jumped at the chance to meet her. Andy introduced himself to us and was eager to chat about his time spent in the Windy City. But more importantly, about Audrina... "Yeah, she is beautiful, and when you guys talk to her, could you please tell her that I am a triathlete and a nice guy?" WHAT? Our response to the former Bachelor was, "Are you asking us to plug you to Audrina?" In case anyone doubted his response, he gave us an eager "YES!" Baldwin jumped at the chance for an intro to Audrina and even took a photo with his personal camera! Baldwin was seen throughout the night with drink in hand, wandering alone past Audrina's VIP booth, looking adoringly at her partying the night away. This is one bachelorette that Baldwin needs to give up on. Sorry Andy, looks like Audrina is fresh out of roses!!!
Josh Kelley attended the annual Piven Theatre Workshop at Rockit Bar & Grill Saturday night, and even though his wife Katherine Heigl wasn't with him, all his attention was focused on his wife. The Boots Girls were at Kelley's table with him when he excused himself to take a call from "the wife". Must have been a good convo! After the phone call Kelley really laid on the adoring husband role by pulling out his iPhone, which has a picture of him and Heigl as the background, and showed off a new picture he snapped of Heigl before coming to Chicago. Nice to see something real in Hollywood marriage for a change! So why wasn't she with him in Chicago? "She's not here because she's back in L.A. filming Grey's," Josh said.
As we reported last week, Michael Lohan has allegedly fathered a 13 year-old daughter named Ashley with a woman named Kristi Kaufmann. Kristi spoke exclusively with Star magazine and told them, "I just want to make sure the truth comes out. Michael is already out there spreading lies." Kristi claims her affair with Michael lasted for years, starting while he and ex-wife Dina were on a break, but continuing even after they were back together. "My daughter has a right to know who her father is — and it's Michael," said Kristi. Michael told Star: "I have known Kristi since 1983, I hadn't seen her for 12 years. Dina and I were separated and I had seen Kristi, she was in the middle of a divorce. Years later she contacted me convincing me that I was the only person she was with and that she had my child. My lawyers will sort this out."
Even presidential hopefuls can find some time for a little romance. Senator Barack Obama and his wife Michelle had a romantic dinner on Saturday night in Chicago at Spiaggia, one of their favorite restaurants! The couple spent two and a half hours dining at the upscale Michigan Avenue restaurant, which is where they have their annual Valentine's Day dinner. Awwww!
Theatre enthusiasts gathered at Rockit Bar & Grill on Saturday night in Chicago for the annual Piven Theatre Workshop, hosted by one of the organizations leaders and HBO's Entourage star, Jeremy Piven. The Boots Girls got a few minutes to chat with Piven, although he was a little distracted. Piven seemed to have more focus on the ladies in the room than answering our questions, but we did have a chance to ask Jeremy about the benefit, and the purpose of the organization. "We are a theatre organization that is based in Evanston, Illinois but we are getting ready to move our headquarters to Chicago," Piven told us. An auction was held at the event and Jeremy told us, "All of the profit from tonight's auctions go to scholarships for the kids." Well the scholarships just got a big boost because when the auction started for a walk-on role for Entourage the bids soared. The package was for one, yes, just one walk-on roll but the bids got so high that Piven generously extended out a second walk on role. The roles went for $20,000 a piece and Jeremy told the female winners after the bidding closed, "After that bidding, there may have to be some kissing scenes added!" Also in attendance to support a fellow Hollywood star were Josh Kelley sans wife, Katherine Heigl. Kelley arrived in town Saturday afternoon to sing the National Anthem at U.S. Cellular field for the Cubs/Sox Crosstown Challenge. Also in attendance supporting Piven was D.B. Sweeney, star of the 1992 ice skating drama, The Cutting Edge.
The Boots Girls caught up with Hills star Audrina Patridge on Saturday night at Enclave nightclub. Even though Patridge gushed to us that she likes Justin Bobby, that didn't stop this party girl from exchanging phone numbers with a random guy she met at the club and staying out till the wee hours of the morning! Patridge partied hard all night at Enclave and local bars drinking Grey Goose with Red Bull and glasses of Dom Perignon. However, she was nice enough to chat with us on the red carpet at Enclave before tearing up the club with lots of drinking, dancing and rocking out behind the DJ booth. Boots Girls: What can we expect from the next season of The Hills? I have heard a lot about drama with you and LC, how are things with that? Audrina Patridge: "Well, I can't tell you much, we are still filming. But it's in the summer so there will be lots of beach parties. Also, lots of drama with friends, jobs, relationships, all the normal stuff." BG: Will we be seeing more of Justin Bobby? AP: "Yes you will." BG: We like him! AP: "So do I!" BG: How was filming your new movie Into the Blue 2? What was your character like? AP: "We have already wrapped. The movie is due to come out in the spring. It was really fun. I got to play someone I am not. I played the nagging girlfriend, and I got to throw a drink in his (her boyfriend's) face. I memorized all my lines, and people didn't think I would be as good at it as I was!" BG: This is your first big movie, do you want to do more? AP: "Yes, that is why I moved to LA in the first place." At one point in the evening Patridge was in an intense conversation with a random guy in the club who she exchanged phone numbers with, according to eyewitnesses. She parties like a rock star! Random alert: Former BachelorAndy Baldwin made an appearance at the event in an attempt to connect with Patridge and made it clear to us he didn't want his 15 minutes to be up!
Kanye West showed up to the PFW - 09 S/S Menswear event in Paris, France yesterday looking like TV geek Steve Urkel! I wonder if he's got the snorting laugh down too?
