Michelle Williams Is Picking Up the Pieces

February 23rd, 2009

Michelle-Williams-Matilda

Michelle Williams doesn’t want her daughter Matilda to grow up in Hollywood — and we completely understand why!

“I wouldn’t raise [Matilda] there. For all the obvious reasons – being the daughter of…,” she told the Telegraph. “Being an actor’s daughter. It’s a town that’s about one thing and I want her to have options.”

She also said that she wants her daughter to be a doctor when she grows up, even though Matilda wants to be a cowgirl.

Michelle also spoke about the way she felt after Matilda’s father Heath Ledger passed away.

“‘I felt burnt out, I still feel that, but I’m coming back to my wits, little by little,” Williams said. “But ultimately I am not yet ready to work. I’ve actually really been enjoying not working. I guess everybody enjoys that.’”

Michelle just finished working on a small, independent film titled Wendy and Lucy. As she talked to the Telegraph about this role and work in general, she just seems so humble — and normal!

“I can handle sitting here chatting in a bar in Brooklyn, that’s right up my alley,” she said. “I just don’t want to strap a film to my back – fly all over the world and show up at lots of different places with a different dress and a new hairdo. I’ll be happy making movies for $300,000 for the rest of my life, if the roles are interesting. On that level, there’ll always be something to go back to.”

We love that Michelle is so down-to-earth. Matilda is lucky to have a mom that isn’t caught up in all the drama of Hollywood!

Heath Ledger’s Dad To Represent Him At the Oscars

February 20th, 2009

Heath Ledger’s dad Kim arrived in L.A. Wednesday and plans to attend Sunday’s Academy Awards in honor of his late son.

If Heath picks up the Oscar for best supporting actor for his role as the Joker in The Dark Knight he said he “may say a few words”, according to TMZ.

He went on to say how he’s honored by the nomination.

“I’m extremely proud,” he said. “You can’t expect to win something like this. [The Academy] could just as easily turn left, as [it] could go right.”

He said attending the show on Heath’s behalf, who died last January from an accidental drug overdose, is “bittersweet, obviously,”.

Kim’s whole extended family flew in for the ceremony from Perth, Australia and he also said that if Heath wins, the statue would eventually be given to Heath’s daughter Matilda.

We sure hope Kim gets a chance to say those few words on Sunday night!

Matilda to Receive Oscar, If Heath Ledger Wins

February 18th, 2009

And the Oscar goes to…Matilda?

That’s right, if Heath Ledger wins the Oscar this Sunday for his performance in The Dark Knight, the famed statuette will go to his daughter, Matilda.

But due to strict rules by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the Oscar won’t technically be hers until the 3-year-old turns 18 — and even then, she must first sign a contract.

“It’s complicated, because there are two different questions that have to be answered,” Bruce Davis,, executive director of the academy, said to The Associated Press. “First, we have to decide who gets the job of accepting the award onstage on the night of the ceremony. And then there’s the question of the eventual disposition of the posthumous statuette, which may not stay with the person who accepts it.”

Typically, the prestigious honor goes to the spouse, but because he and Michelle Williams were never married, it would go to the oldest chid.

Because Matilda is too young to sign the winner’s agreement, a contract required of all nominees that says the recipient will not resell his or her Oscar without first offering it back to the academy, Williams would serve as the legal custodian of the Oscar for the next 15 years, until Matilda turns 18.

“At that point, she may execute what we call an heir’s agreement and keep the statuette forever — or, if she chooses not to do that, it will return to us,” Davis said.

Wow, sounds like a sticky situation the Academy has on their hands. We can’t wait to see if Heath actually wins and who will accept the award on his behalf!

Naomi Watts Is Still Struggling With Heath Ledgers Death

January 29th, 2009

A year after the sudden death of Heath Ledger, good friend and fellow actor, Naomi Watts is still grieving.

“I hadn’t really been that familiar with his work,” Watts recalls in this weekend’s Parade. “Then, when I got to the set and did that first scene with him, I was like, ‘Wow! This guy is alive.’

Watts also goes on to say she fell in love with him in 2002 while shooting the drama Ned Kelly.

“It was just something deep in his eyes. You could look into them, and they would tell a thousand stories in one glance,” she says. “There was a wonderful mixture of power and fragility at work in everything he did, which just pulls you in.”

She continues, “His strength didn’t scare you. It intrigued you. And his fragility touched you.”

Though the on-and-off pair officially split in 2004, she says they always kept in touch up until his death.

“It’s still incredibly difficult,” Watts says.

Watts has two children with current beau Liev Schreiber but we can’t help but wonder if she’d be with Heath if he were still alive.

Heath Ledger scored another award last night for his role as the Joker in The Dark Knight.

Ledger won a SAG Award for best supporting actor and his co-star, Gary Oldman, accepted the award on his behalf.

“I am quite emotional,” Oldman said. “It is a great honor to be asked to accept this on behalf of Heath. He was an extraordinary young man with an extraordinary talent, and it is wonderful that you have acknowledged that and honored that talent tonight.

“On behalf of Heath, his family and his family on The Dark Knight, I thank you.”

It looks like Heath will get an Oscar for this role in addition to this one and his Gold Globe!

Matilda Will Inherit Heath’s Golden Globe!

January 13th, 2009

Heath Ledger’s mother says her son’s Golden Globe award will most likely end up in the hands of his daughter Matilda.

“I should imagine that eventually it will be going to Matilda,” Sally Bell told People from her home in Perth, Australia, in an exclusive interview. “At this stage she is only so young, but down the track she will have all these things. It will belong to her because she is part of him.”

Bell says she and her family are “bursting with pride” over her son’s posthumous award for playing The Joker in The Dark Knight.

“It is such a fantastic and wonderful legacy for his daughter. Matilda will have so many people who will be able to speak to her about her father’s abilities and [the] respect he had in the industry. That is such a wonderful legacy to leave,” she says.

Bell went on to say that she learned of his Golden Globe win before boarding a flight in Australia which brought on “a few tears.”

“There is a lot of emotion tied up in this and we have to deal with that emotion first before we can relax and enjoy the moment, if you know what I mean,” she explains.

She said that Heath would have truly appreciated the honor from his peers: “That’s what meant the most to him really.”

We’re glad Heath’s Golden Globe is ending up in the right little hands!

Even though Heath Ledger’s family couldn’t be at the Golden Globe Awards last night to accept on his behalf, they were still overcome with happiness with the actor’s posthumous honor for his portrayal of The Joker in The Dark Knight.

“We are overjoyed for him,” his father Kim Ledger told People. “It’s wonderful.”

I think the whole world is overjoyed for Heath right now!

Golden Globes Highlights

January 12th, 2009

katewinslettwogoldenglobes.jpg

The 66th annual Golden Globes were surprisingly a little more entertaining than usual with bad jokes, drug references, celebrity disses and salty speeches!

- Colin Farrell sniffed on stage at the show and said it was cold and he wasn’t sniffling ‘‘for the reasons I used to.’’ Ha!

- Seth Rogen joked about doing cocaine with Mickey Rourke, and Sacha Baron Cohen noted that even Madonna has felt the impact of these hard economic times and it lead her to dumping many assistants — “Guy Ritchie.” Double ouch!

- During Tina Fey’s acceptance speech she told on-line haters to “suck it!” “If you ever start to feel too good about yourself, they have this thing called the Internet,” Fey said. “You can find a lot of people there who don’t like you.” Then she went on to tell them that they can suck it! You tell ‘em Tina!

- The Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan accepted a posthumous best supporting actor Golden Globe for Heath Ledger’s role as The Joker which comes almost a full year after his tragic death. Definitely the most touching moment of the evening.

- When 30 Rock won for best TV comedy series, Tracy Morgan joked ‘‘Tina Fey told me if Barack Obama won I’d speak for the show from now on — so look at the new face of TV!.”

- Kate Winslet was clearly the belle of the ball last night nabbing two Golden Globes - one for best supporting actress for The Reader and the second for best actress in Revolutionary Road.

- A giddy Drew Barrymore sported a bob straight from Revolutionary Road. Not sure what happy pills she was taking, but we’re guessing it was the endless supply of champagne!

- Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie dissed E!’s Ryan Seacrest by cruising right by him as he tried to interview them for the pre-show!

- Finally, did anyone find it ironic that when Jake Gyllenhaal talked about The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, starring Brad Pitt, he insisted that it is a film that celebrates that youth is not wasted on the young? We thought it was a strange choice of words to use for Pitt’s film considering that his ex-wife, Jennifer Aniston, has said in several recent interviews that ” the youth is wasted on the young”!

Terrence Howard Believes Golden Globe Winner Should Give Award To Heath Ledger

December 12th, 2008

terrencehowardgoldenglobesannouncement.jpg

At the 66th Annual Golden Globe announcement ceremony yesterday, Terrence Howard said that Heath Ledger’s family should receive the nominee no matter who wins, according to Hollyscoop.com!

When asked if Howard thought Ledger would win the Golden Globe he said, “I’m sure he will. Even if someone else won in his category, if I had won in that category, I would give it to his family because he truly had the best performance.

“He gave more than I have seen any other actor give, he brought a new light. How do you step into Jack Nicholson’s shoes? How do you do that and stretch that? He stretched Jack Nicholson’s shoes.”

We sure hope he wins too!
