When it came to casting roles in his blockbuster hit, Avatar, James Cameron had some big names in mind. Unfortunately, Jake Gyllenhaal and Matt Damon were offered roles in the flick but turned them down. We can imagine they’re kicking themselves right about now…
However, James admits it wasn’t related to an ego trip. “I don’t think they ever had a problem with the CG,” Cameron tells the Los Angeles Times. “Honestly, did I go out and try to woo them? No. I had my heart set on Sam. Maybe they sensed my lack of 100 percent commitment from me. Maybe it was the subject matter. This was a big Star Wars-type movie. They’re both serious actors.”
So instead, Sam Worthington got the part. The struggling actor was living in his car when he got his big break. (Talk about your lucky day!)
And James admitted to the Times that the role was for Sam. He only approached the big-name stars to please the movie studios, but only intended on giving the role to his up-and-coming star.
And, for all you Avatar fans, get excited! Sam has already signed up for the sequel to the flick, which so far has earned more than $2.5 billion in theaters worldwide.

As we all know, Hollywood’s golden couple Jake Gyllenhaal and Reese Witherspoon recently called it quits. Reese wasn’t ready to take the relationship to the next level (marriage), but Jake is not ready to give up!
To help win her back, Jake sent Reese multiple emails and flowers, in addition to a $75,000 vintage dinnerware set from France for Christmas, reports In Touch Weekly. “He isn’t giving up without a fight,” a friend exclaimed.
Keep pushing Jake… we have a feeling this one’s meant to be!
The cute couple lasted nearly three years together, but now, Jake Gyllenhaal and Reese Witherspoon are terminating what seemed like the perfect relationship.
“It broke his heart,” an insider reveals in the latest issue of Us Weekly.
A source close to Jake admitted that although they seemed happy, the couple “fought constantly in the past few months,” and that they finally ended everything over a series of phone calls.
Fortunately, another source reveals that “no one cheated. There was no drama.”
Because Jake and Reese joined forces so quickly after her split with ex-husband Ryan Phillippe sources are saying that the divorce and her children were the two driving factors in the split.
“She felt pressured to wed again but she wasn’t ready,” an insider says. “She couldn’t give Jake enough and she got cold feet. Jake wanted all of her.”
And while they seemed perfectly happy when Jake moved into her $5 million home back in June 2008, Reese couldn’t get over her doubts about his suitability as a stepfather and long-time partner. “She really worried that they didn’t have enough in common,” the friend says.
Also, being the super single-mom she is, Reese worried about losing time with her kids to her boyfriend. “When she was giving all of her energy to Jake, she felt like she wasn’t giving her kids enough,” the friend adds.
Jake did try to be a positive figure in Ava and Deacon’s lives, the insider admits. Unfortunately, while “he was great with the kids, but she felt like he didn’t get the whole scope of what that entailed.”
Aww, we’re totally bummed this golden couple didn’t last… seemed like a match made in heaven.
Despite recent rumors that lovebirds Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal are dunzo, they are very much still together!
“It’s not true. They have not split,” a rep for Witherspoon told Usmagazine.com.
The couple — who kept their relationship a secret as long as possible — met in 2007 while filming Rendition, but didn’t become public with their love affair until the summer of 2008.

Reese Witherspoon’s recently dished about the extreme low she went through during her painful divorce to Ryan Phillippe.
“When people get in your face and say, ‘This will pass,’ you think: Are they crazy?” Witherspooon tells the April issue of Elle. “I’m never gonna feel any better than I feel right this minute and nothing’s ever gonna make sense again. And I still have moments where I’m like, ‘Nothing’s ever gonna make sense again.’ “
She says her 2006 divorce was “very humiliating and very isolating”, but also acknowledges that if it wasn’t painful than she probably should not have married.
“If it’s not painful, maybe it wasn’t the right decision to marry to begin with,” Witherspoon said. “Those are the appropriate emotions.”
She said that her and Philippe did their share of playing the blame game!
“Blame, blame, blame,” she says. “You know? And it’s a really easy thing to do, and I’m certainly guilty of it. [You have to] look at yourself and go: ‘What part of this do I need to own? Which part of this is my responsibility?’ And that’s the painful work that you have to go through to hopefully get some real-life knowledge out of it.”

- A giddy Drew Barrymore sported a bob straight from Revolutionary Road. Not sure what happy pills she was taking, but we’re guessing it was the endless supply of champagne!
- Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie dissed E!’sRyan Seacrest by cruising right by him as he tried to interview them for the pre-show!
- Finally, did anyone find it ironic that when Jake Gyllenhaal talked about The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, starring Brad Pitt, he insisted that it is a film that celebrates that youth is not wasted on the young? We thought it was a strange choice of words to use for Pitt’s film considering that his ex-wife, Jennifer Aniston, has said in several recent interviews that ” the youth is wasted on the young”!
Reese Witherspoon’s Kids Planning Four Christmases

Reese Witherspoon talked about how her and ex-hubby Ryan Phillippe plan to divide their time with their kids over the holidays this year while promoting her new film Four Christmases in Beverly Hills over the weekend.
“I think the most important thing is to be a grownup and not let any kind of feelings affect how you deal with your children,” Witherspoon said.
Witherspoon and Phillippe finalized their divorce in June and she has since said that, “a lot of communication” with her ex-husband and “just being very open” makes the children feel comfortable which is the main goal.
Reese is currently dating Jake Gyllenhaal and when asked if she would ever marry again she said: “I don’t know. I don’t think about it much.”
Yeah, we’re sure the thought never crossed your mind even though you’re in a serious relationship. She’s probably secretly engaged!
Despite reports that Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal are drifting apart, the two looked happy in love in London on Friday.
Reese recently moved to a house in Notting Hill to be closer to Jake while he films the movie The Prince of Persia. The two were spotted getting coffee and shopping, which included a stop Among at a lingerie store.
The two even held hands and smiled for the paparazzi.
It’s nice that Reese has found happiness, especially since her sketchy ex-husband is still dating the other woman Abby Cornish.
