New 90210 star Ryan Eggold came to Chicago on Monday night to celebrate the Joffrey Ballet’s new home by attending a cocktail party at the Joffrey Tower. The bubbly budding new star dished to The Boots Girls about everything from his new role, Shannen Doherty, Jenny Garth and Tori Spelling’s future with the show to his take on this year’s election and his personal life which includes ex-girlfriend Rumer Willis.

Tell me about your role on 90210.

”He’s an alien. He’s not really a human being. That’s going to be very interesting. I just unzip my whole skin body thing. No. He is a teacher who is rebellious and outspoken and he just calls people on their BS. He is kind of a guy’s guy. He is really fun to play. He is just no BS, which I really enjoy.”

Is your character anything like your personality in real life?

”There are a lot of things that I connect to with this character because I live in Hollywood, but I don’t respect a lot of the things that go on in Hollywood. The thing is, there are a lot of things to appreciate about Hollywood and LA but the rest of the country and the rest of the world doesn’t live in this weird little like TV/film bubble and they forget that. But yes, I absolutely relate to this character.”

Where you a fan of 90210 growing up?

”No. I was too young. I watched it when I was a kid, but I had no idea what they were talking about.”

How is it to work with stars like Shannon Doherty and Jennie Garth?

”It’s a lot of fun. They are both really sweet and they are both fun to work with for different reasons. Jennie is fun and bubbly and really great. And Shannon is serious.”

I’ve heard buzz that Shannon turning down offers to be permanent cast member. Can you divulge any info?

”I know she is doing more episodes. It’s probably not confirmed yet, but I know they want her to do more and she wants to do more. I don’t know how permanent it’s going to be. I don’t think she would put herself in a permanent position but it is possible.”

Do you have any ideas why Tori Spelling dropped out of the cast?

”I’ve heard the same rumors as you have about money. I don’t know if that’s true. I’m not the one in there making deals, but it’s probably what going on. I think it is also scheduling and timing. She had a baby.”

I heard rumors that you were dating Rumor Willis. Is that true?

”Yes, that is long gone. But yes, we used to date. She is a very sweet girl. She’s got herself a new man now.”

What type of girl do you normally date?

”Crazy. Someone who is crazy, creative, an artist. I am dating someone new.”

Is she an actress?

”I met this girl. It is very new. She is an actress. I won’t say her name (as he jokes and mumbles Jennifer Aniston) because I don’t think she wants to be whatever.”

How do you feel about the election? Do you follow it at all?

”Tremendously. My feelings are if we elect McCain, I am moving Canada and the rest of the world will turn their back on the United States of America because we will have gone so far right that we will never find our way back.”

So I take it you are not a Sarah Palin fan?

”No. Who is this woman? It is an insult to women for McCain to be like I will just hire a woman just to get the female vote. That is honestly what I think he did. I think it is ridiculous because Hillary Clinton is brilliant and has so much experience. She would make a fine president or vice president. I don’t know that much about Palin, but from what I know she is not that exciting in terms of someone to lead the country.”

Eggold hung out at the party with rapper Kid Sister for a little while and auctioned off a 90210 script signed by all the cast members. Eggold joked on stage that he’d also auction off a nude lunch with himself (yes, please!) and pretended to disrobe on stage. After the bash, Eggold headed over to Kingston Mines to watch a friend perform at the blues club. There Eggold told people that he probably will make another appearance on Entourage to poke fun at his 90210 role. He also said that Doherty isn’t difficult to work with her co-stars, but can be difficult with the writers. Eggold was super friendly with his fans and the bar staff.
