DJ AM’s drug documentary Gone Too Far will begin airing on MTV next week!
With the consent and support of his family, MTV will run the one-hour, eight-episode series beginning on Monday Oct. 12 at 10 p.m. EST. Gone Too Far — developed and hosted by DJ AM aka Adam Goldstein — will feature young addicts who are offered a chance at recovery.
“After careful consideration we have decided to air the show,” the late DJ’s family said in a statement. “Adam felt strongly that by doing this series he could help other addicts who were at a crisis point to get sober. Adam was fully aware that if it were not for his own sobriety he never would have achieved the level of success and happiness he had found. Helping people in their recovery was a huge part of Adam’s life. It is our hope through airing this show that people will get to see the side of Adam that we knew and loved, not just the celebrity DJ, but the honest and caring person who gave so much of himself to help others. The decision to air the show has been difficult, but we do this with the profound belief that it will inspire others to seek help.”
Goldstein — who had been sober for eleven years after a chronic battle with drug addiction — meets with addicts, friends and families encouraging them to change their ways.
“”His mission was to help as many people as he could and this series was a way for him to help on a bigger level,” MTV said in a statement about Gone Too Far. “Through interviews and self-shot video from the addicts and their families, the severity of their addiction and its impact is exposed. Adam often uncovers and reveals new information that even those closest to the addicts are unaware. Along the road to recovery, Adam made the time to see how their rehabilitation was progressing, providing a raw and honest look at their new sobriety.”
Finally, DJ AM can rest in peace as his tragic death was ruled an accident due to substance abuse earlier this morning.
A spokesperson for the New York Medical Examiners tells Usmagazine.com that the cause of death is “acute intoxication” due to the combined effects of cocaine, oxycodone (painkiller Oxycontin), hydrocodone (Vicodin), Ativan, Klonopin, Xanax, Benadryl and Levamisole (a drug dealers cut cocaine with).
“Our investigation is completed,” spokesperson Ellen Borakove states.
Officials have just reported that DJ AM had six prescription pills in his stomach and one in his throat when he was found dead in his apartment on Friday.
The pills appear to be OxyContin, according to the unnamed official who released this info this morning to the Associated Press.
A preliminary autopsy on the performer came up as inconclusive, according to the Medical Examiner’s Office, and toxicology reports are still pending.
In addition to the ingested pain meds, AM was surrounded by prescription pill bottles and a crack pipe upon his death. There was however, no evidence of foul play.
In past interviews, the DJ had opened up about his battle with crack cocaine and Ecstasy, but claimed he’d been sober for over eleven years. To prove his sobriety he was set to star in an Intervention-type MTV reality show called Gone Too Far this fall.
A memorial service for DJ AM, who died last week of an unexpected drug overdose, is scheduled for Thursday.
The service will be held at the Hollywood Palladium at 7 p.m., “the format of the evening will be in the style of an open 12 step meeting,” according to the invitation. “”Adam’s friends both from his life in recovery, as well as those from other areas of his life, are welcome.”
The family of DJ AM, who’s real name is Adam Goldstein, recently addressed fans on his MySpace page:
“We appreciate the kind words and support for Adam over the past few days. Due to your inquiries, in lieu of flowers, AM’s family would like to suggest making donations to the following charitable organizations: National MS Society, Southern California Chapter … or Friendly House [an organization dedicated to helping women recover from alcohol and drug abuse].”
How unique and appropriate at the same time. RIP Adam…
DJ AM’s most recent girlfriend, model Hayley Wood has recently opened up about his death for the first time.
The two apparently split just two weeks before the performer was found dead of an apparent overdose at the young age of 36.
However, in an exclusive statement to Usmagazine.com, Wood says: “Any indication that this horribly tragic accident happened because of a rumored breakup is not only untrue but disgusting. We were very much together at the time of his passing, and I love him very much.”
So, not only did she lose the man she loved, but now she’s being accused of his death?! Poor girl…
Mandy Moore, a former girlfriend of DJ AM, expressed her sadness over his recent death.
“I am absolutely heartbroken,” she tells Usmagazine.com about her ex. “For those of us lucky enough to have known him, Adam radiated a contagious exuberance for life and also personified the very definition of a true friend.”
Moore, who is now married to musician Ryan Adams, only dated the celebrity DJ for two months back in 2007. Still, they remained close, and after he was badly burned in a September plane crash, she was at his side. They rekindled their relationship briefly following the accident.
“To say that he will be missed beyond words is an understatement,” she continued. “My heart goes out to his loved ones.”
Mandy wasn’t DJ AM’s only celebrity girlfriend. The artist was engaged to Nicole Richie back in 2005, she however, has yet to comment on his death.
Addiction specialist Dr. Drew Pinsky believes pain medications likely caused the death of DJ AM.
The former drug addict, who died at the age of 36 Friday, most likely relapsed as pain killers have a tendency to jump-start addictions again.
“It very slowly and subtly reawakens addiction,” Pinsky told the Associated Press over the weekend. “I’m not saying it was inappropriately prescribed, I’m saying he didn’t know the risks.”
Reports indicate that a crack pipe and prescription pills were found in DJ AM’s Manhattan apartment, according to information law enforcement officials told the Associated Press.
The talented DJ had been believed to be taking anxiety and pain medication for injuries he suffered in a 2008 plane crash that required two skin graft surgeries.
A spokesperson for the New York City medical examiner’s office has said an initial autopsy proved “inconclusive” and that more tests, including a toxicology report, are needed to determine what killed DJ AM.
This is still so sad. What an awful year for AM and his close family and friends.
Cops tell TMZ.com that DJ AM aka Adam Goldstein was found dead this afternoon in New York City.
Law enforcement sources are saying his body was found in his apartment around 5:20 p.m. Drug paraphernalia was present at the scene.
Apparently DJ AM had not been seen or heard from for a few days. A friend went to check on him, but got no response after knocking on his apartment door.
The friend called the police, who broke down the door and found DJ AM’s body.
We exclusively reported last week that DJ AM canceled his Friday the 13 gig to spin at Chicago’s Enclave nightclub because he was almost involved in a second fatal plane crash.
We were told that AM had planned on taking the Continental flight which crashed in Buffalo, New York and we even published a statement that AM and his management put out through the nightclub.
“After another close call in the dangers of flying, he has opted out of all gigs that are within flying distance and only feels comfortable attending gigs that are within driving distance,” the statement read.
Since they released the statement acknowledging AM’s second brush with death, they decided that they would prefer to keep the story “under wraps”.
So DJ AM’s publicist has come out to TMZ and flat out lied by denying our reports:
“DJ AM was never booked on the Continental flight that crashed last month, in fact he was performing that evening in NYC. That crash nor the one he was involved in, has prevented him from flying — although he has tremendously scaled back his east coast residencies to focus on his recovery.”
This is hilarious to us! Basically AM’s rep is denying something that his management put out! Ha! AM needs to stick with spinning records, not lies! Celebrities get pissed when false stories come out about them, but most are guilty of doing the same thing. Hypocrite AM and his pr team are lying by denying our story and it’s pretty sh*tty.
I have more respect for Vince Vaughn, who we highly dislike over here, because at least his people will just say they “don’t know” or “no comment” when they don’t want to acknowledge our stories as fact. We exclusively reported his engagement here and that’s exactly what his people did.
AM can learn a thing or two from the Dodgeball star!
DJ AM’s Official Statement on his Second Brush with Death Involving a Plane Crash!!!
March 11th, 2009
The Boots Girls exclusively reported Monday that DJ AM has canceled all out-of-town spinning gigs - including an upcoming appearance at Chicago’s Enclave nightclub - after almost boarding another airplane which recently crashed and fatally killed several passengers. AM released this official statement about his second near death experience:
Enclave Nightclub regrets to inform attendees that Adam “DJ A.M.” Goldstein has decided to cancel March 13th as well as all upcoming performances due to second thoughts about flying.
After another close call in the dangers of flying, he has opted out of all gigs that are within flying distance and only feels comfortable attending gigs that are within driving distance.
Adam and his management personally voiced, “We would like to say that we wanted this event to happen so much and so did A.M. – you know he loves spinning at Enclave as much as you love having him! We were all extremely excited to offer such a special event to our friends and promise to reschedule him as soon as we can.”
Adam is adamant about rescheduling his performance at Enclave and once he feels more comfortable about making the trip from California, the news will be released immediately.
This totally sucks because we love it when AM rocks Chicago, but you really can’t blame the guy!
