Lionel Richie is ecstatic over daughter Nicole Richie’s engagement to Good Charlotte rocker Joel Madden!

“My happiness for Nicole and Joel knows no boundaries,” Richie tells Usmagazine.com in a statement. “They have given me two beautiful grandchildren, Harlow and Sparrow, and have proven to be great parents.”

Lionel couldn’t be more excited for the big day, which is expected to be this summer, as he’ll also be serenading the two lovebirds in their first dance!

“I am not sure who is luckier, Nicole and Joel to have each other, or me, to have both of them in my life,” the singer says. “I cannot wait to give away the bride!”

How cute is the Richie fam?! Once again, congrats to Nicole and Joel… we’ve been waiting for this to happen!

Nicole Richie and Joel Madden have welcomed their second child, a baby boy!

“In the middle of night, the very early hours of September 9, 2009, Sparrow James Midnight Madden was born to Nicole Richie and Joel Madden,” Nicole announced on her website earlier today. “He weighs 7lbs 14oz. Nicole, Joel, Harlow [their 19-month-old daughter] and Sparrow are all doing well. Thank you for all of your good wishes.”

In February, Joel announced he and Nicole were expecting again on his band’s blog. “What’s better than winning an Oscar?” he wrote. “I am so happy to tell everyone that Harlow is going to be a big sister!”

However, even as their family expands, the two are in no hurry to wed, reports Usmagazine.com.

“I think for both of us, we are going to do it because we want to, not because that’s what you do,” Nicole told CNN’s Larry King last May. “We’re going to do it when the time’s right.”

Joel added, “We’re really focused on our family, and we feel like — we already feel kind of married, you know? Our family system that we have down, we feel like this is a real family and marriage, one day it will come.”

Additionally, Nicole’s father Lionel wants them “to take their time.”

He told Larry King he knows people who have wed spontaneously “and they broke up five minutes later. I like the idea of ‘take your time, get it right,’ because you have kids in common.”

He continued by saying “I’m more interested in whether they like each other and whether they’re best friends, because that means they’ll be great parents forever.”

What a great family! We are so excited for Nicole and Joel and hope baby Sparrow is healthy and happy!

Celebrities always do it up big time for New Year’s Eve and here’s the scoop on where some of them will be ringing in 2009 tonight.

New York City and it’s famous ball drop will play host to many famous names including exes Joe Jonas and Taylor Swift. The Big Apple will also be party headquarters for former President and first lady Bill and Hillary Clinton as well as Lionel Rtchie.

At NYC hotspot, Marquee, Mario Lopez will be hosting a soiree and you could rub elbows with the stud and his guests for a mere $165 a ticket.

Heading to the West coast for the new year? Try these hotspots to mingle with your favorite celebs.

Travis Barker and D.J. AM, who survived a fiery plane crash earlier this year, will ring in new beginnings with their performance at the Wilshire Theatre.

Also in L.A. Eva Longoria Parker will lay low at her restaurant, Beso, while Robin Thicke will perform at hotspot Area.

The parties don’t stop in between coasts either, as plenty of stars will ring in the new year in Miami and Las Vegas as well. Samantha Ronson and Lindsay Lohan we’ll be at Mansion tonight for Sam’s spinning gig and Kid Rock will be rocking out at the Palms Playboy Club in Vegas baby.

Finally, Vince Vaughn will be partying it up in Chi-Town at a private party and we hear that celebs such as John Cusack and Chris Chelios will also be ringing in New Year’s in the Windy City!

Justin Timberlake presented Mike Myers with an award last night in Santa Monica, Calif. at the TV Land Awards, but not before a male audience member shouted out his love for Timberlake!

“That’s OK. Nothing wrong with a little bromance,” Timberlake joked back.

Another funny moment in the show was when Lionel Richie was presented with the Icon Award for his 40 years in show business. While onstage to accept his award Richie said, “Just surviving 27 years of Nicole Richie…I stand here as a survivor.” LOL!

The night was full of laughter with celebs like Robin Williams, Kathy Griffin and Steve Carrell up on stage. Also making appearances were Ed Asner, William Shatner, Teri Hatcher, Gary Coleman and Vanessa Williams.

       

Almost four months into having daughter Harlow, Nicole Richie opened up to Extra about her experience so far, “It’s [motherhood] definitely like nothing I could have imagined. It’s beyond amazing and my family has been supportive. And I go to my dad’s house all the time.” She added, “He [Lionel] actually babysat the other day – him and Joel [Madden, boyfriend] – and they were amazing. I mean, she [daughter] slept the whole time…” Lionel exclaimed, “It’s when the baby wakes up that I freak out!”

Side note: Nicole thought calling Lionel a Grandpa sounded too old so his new nickname is G-Pa.
