Shannon Elizabeth and Derek Hough have called it quits!

The couple, who met on Dancing With the Stars, dated for a year until publicly announcing their split via Twitter Friday night.

“Hi everyone, we wanted you all to know directly from us, that Shannon & I have decided to end our relationship as boyfriend & girlfriend…,” they each posted in matching Twitter messages. “However, we love and care about each other very much and will reamin friends and in each others lives.”

It’s so weird how personal celebs are getting on Twitter these days! One second they’re complaining about the media prying into their lives, and then the next second Tweeting about their every move!

Shortly after announcing their split, Elizabeth thanked her fans for the support.

“Thank you everyone for all your sweet words & encouragement — it really means a lot to me!” Elizabeth posted.

Maybe Derek will find love again on the next season?!

Dancing With The Stars lovebirds Derek Hough and Shannon Elizabeth surprised everyone when they hooked up five months ago, but don’t expect to hear wedding bells anytime soon.

Hough, 23, reportedly proposed to Shannon…only to be rejected!

“She’s enjoying every moment of their romance, but she’s not ready to get hitched again,” an insider told Star.

Derek won’t give up without a fight though. “He’s very persistent and is used to getting his way,” an insider said of Hough.

Only time will tell!

ABC has released names of the 12 new contestants on this season of Dancing With The Stars.
