Uma Thurman’s Awkward Acceptance!
Uma Thurman arrived in Chicago last night for the premiere of her new film, Motherhood, and to accept a Career Achievement Award! Thurman not only brought the LOLs on-screen but also moments before accepting her award!
The Boots Girls — who were seated directly behind Thurman — watched as she rushed the podium to accept the Career Achievement Award from film festival founder Michael Kutza before he even had the chance to announce it! The entire theater laughed as Thurman headed back to her seat. Awkward moment no. 2 came moments later…
Get this! When Kutza eventually went to present Thurman with the award it was nowhere to be found! He had to call for staff to go find it! Um, awkward turtle much?
The two-week long Chicago International Film Festival kicked off Thursday Oct. 8 at AMC’s River East 21 theater with the premiere of Thurman’s comedy directed by Katherine Dieckmann. The independent film showcases the trials and tribulations a Manhattan mom of two encounters on a daily basis while also attempting to chase her dream as a writer.
Prior to the screening, the strikingly beautiful actress walked the red carpet and dished about the movie and the major difference between shooting an independent film versus a huge motion picture.
“It’s really hard to make a movie on such a low budget. Ya know, you just don’t have the same flexibility for coverage, for ya know, doing extra things. There’s nothing extra. Like everything you do practically ends up in the movie,” she explained.
When asked who has a harder job, Eliza her character in Motherhood, or her role as Beatrix Kiddo in Kill Bill, she chuckled and said, “Both jobs are pretty tough!”
Thurman, who is also a real-life mom of two, instantly connected with script, which she described as “brilliant,” and quickly became eager to work on something that hit so close to home.
“Well I fell in love with the script because I just identified with the script so much. I thought it was such an honest and smart rendering of a real situation, in an incredibly funny and touching transporting way.”
Thurman must be a hip mom because when asked where’s a good place to buy mom jeans, Thurman shook her head, laughed and continued down the red carpet.
Others in attendance included: actress Jacqueline Bisset, festival panelist Paula Wagner, film critic Robert Ebert alongside wife Chaz and Dieckmann.
