On Wednesday night Conan O’Brien and William Shatner performed a skit that mocked tweets sent by professional pants-dropper Levi Johnston.

Unfortunately, Thursday morning O’Brien awoke to some startling news. “Apparently the tweets that we read were counterfeit,” he said. “They were written by a clever impostor posing as the witty Levi Johnston. And the real Levi is very angry with us now.”

So, on Thursday’s Tonight Show, Conan made a formal apology to Johnston for “misrepresenting him in any way”. He stated, “I’d like to personally apologize to Levi Johnston and his lawyer and publicist for misrepresenting him in any way.”

Additionally, he invited Shatner back out to recite what Conan called “verified” quotes from the real Johnston, as spoken-word poetry!

This poor kid will never catch a break…

Conan O’Brien is getting rave reviews for his first show taking over for Jay Leno as the host of The Tonight Show.

During the show’s opening Conan is seen running from New York to California, and stopping to see all scenic and historic spots along the way such as Wrigley Field in Chi-town!

He was given a warm welcome as Conan went into jokes about himself, Hillary Clinton and Vice President Joe Biden.

“At least we know the applause sign works, he joked after his warm reception. “Ladies and gentleman this is a huge night for me. I remember watching Johnny Carson when I was a kid and thinking that’s what I want to be when I grow up. I’m sure right now somewhere in America there’s a little kid watching me thinking what is wrong with that man’s hair?

Conan welcomed guest Will Ferrell whom was carried out by four men dressed as Egyptians holding a pharaoh’s platform.

“I didn’t want to upstage you…I just wanted to come in low key, under the radar,” Ferrell said.

Conan and Ferrell discussed his new movie Land of the Lost, and Ferrell gave Conan some tips about things to do in Los Angeles.

Finally, Pearl Jam performed as Conan’s first musical guest. Not a bad way to kick off a new show!

Loved your debut Conan - we’re all pumped to see more of you!

Betcha Didn’t Know This About Conan!

This week Jay Leno passes his Tonight Show baton to Conan O’Brien.

Here’s some surprising random facts about Leno’s replacement, according to omgyahoo.com.

* In 1984, when Conan was a student at Harvard and president of the Harvard Lampoon, Burt Ward came to the school to give a lecture with his cape in hand. He arrived on campus to be greeted by “security guards” sent to “safeguard the costume.” But Burt realized he’d been taken for a ride when those same security guards burst into the middle of his speech, dimmed the lights and stole the costume. Conan held hostage negotiations with the actor the following day.

* Conan was a huge risk for NBC. Yes, he was funny and had written for Saturday Night Live and The Simpsons, but he wasn’t really a stand-up and hadn’t spent a lot of time in front of the camera. It’s a good thing for NBC that Lorne Michaels knows talent, because the gamble paid off.

* Conan decided he wanted to be an entertainer in grade school so he asked his parents if he could take tap dance lessons. After a considerable amount of begging, they signed him up with Bill “Bojangles” Robinson protégé Stanley Brown, who taught him how to tap.

* Before either of them were famous, Conan and Lisa Kudrow were a couple. They split up when Conan left L.A. for New York to host Late Night. It’s rumored that he pined for Kudrow for two years until she married Michel Stern in 1995. Conan met his wife, Liza, in 2000, but he and Kudrow are still friends.

* In 2005 Conan did a cameo in The White Stripes’ The Denial Twist after befriending them in a bowling alley in the late ’90s. They performed many times on his show and in a final farewell, Jack and Meg, who hadn’t played live together in almost two years, reunited on Conan’s last Late Night to perform We’re Going to Be Friends.

* Without Conan, we wouldn’t have one of our favorite puppets of all time, Triumph. The Insult Comic Dog, Robert Smigel’s genius creation that debuted on Conan’s show in 1997. Triumph has insulted the biggest names in entertainment, from Jennifer Lopez to Eminem to every Star Wars fanatic that ever lived.
